OverviewThe Department of Meteorology, is part of the College of Aviation, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Prescott, Arizona. Around 600 students annually take meteorology classes offered by the department. The department administers the Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Meteorology, which provides a practical understanding of the physics and dynamics of the atmosphere and prepares the graduate for a range of meteorologist and weather forecasting positions in government or the private sector. This degree meets the requirements for a meteorology degree recommended by the American Meteorological Society. A minor in Aviation Weather is also offered. Department faculty are committed to quality teaching in small classes and to promoting integrity in educational activities. Research activities within the Department include studies of mid-latitude cyclones, orographic precipitation, weather radar, the southwest monsoon and cirrus clouds.
